The blanket 2008

There I was.

A hard wood bench strongly fixed on a nude concrete wall.

They kept my sweat shirt to avoid any attempt of hanging myself.

I was alone because they took care to put the five of us in each different corridor.

From the four walls, three are made of concrete and one of steel bars.

There was this stainless steel toilet with no seat and I didn’t want to sit on it anyway.

It’s been five hours since I was put in the cell.

I was kind of cold.

When a guardian came with a blanket, I felt some comfort.

This feeling changed in anger when the janitress said to me in Spanish.

- Be careful with this blanket.

- Try to touch it as less as possible.

- It’s very dirty...

There I was, in a cell, with a soiled blanket without any trace of dirt on it.

I used it against the wall to support my back.

And I waited.
